catching up

Been a little while.

Thanksgiving was good. Got to hang out with fam and all that kinda stuff. Didn't do any homework, which has made life quite busy since I've gotten back. Only this week and next, and then finals! I'm done with school 2 weeks from tomorrow, I think. I'm looking forward to the 3 weeks or so I get off, even if I am working. At least my mind will get a bit of a break.

In other news, I've finally bought another film SLR. My dad wanted his old Pentax K2 DMD back... :( For being almost 30 years old, it takes amazing pictures. But, I found what appears to be a pretty stellar deal on a Nikon N80 body. I got it off eBay, so I have to wait until it shows up to make sure I got what I paid for. So far, I've had pretty good luck with eBay. Anyhow... This particular camera has supposedly only had about 5 rolls of film through it, as it was someone's backup body. From the pictures, it looks brand new. It also came with the battery grip (which I wouldn't do without). All for the lovely price of $200. As long as it is in the condition he claims, it is a great deal. I sold my first N80 about a year an a half ago to buy a Nikon D70 when they came out. I've regretted it ever since. I sold the D70 a couple months later because I had borrowed money to buy it, and because I was not impressed with the picture quality. So, I've been without a camera of my own for over a year. Looking forward to getting it in the mail sometime soon! Now the only thing is I need to scrape together some money to buy a lens of some variety. I think I will pick up this one first, as I love 50mm lenses, and I can get it brand new for about $100. Which is crazy, because it is one of the highest rated lenses (optically) that is out there.

Other than that? I am trying to get into a photography course next semester. It is pretty basic, but I am sure I would learn some good fundamental stuff. The big draw is that it is all black and white photography, and you get to spend a bunch of time in a darkroom developing your own prints. That is something I've always wanted to do, so? It doesn't cost me anything more to take another class, so why not? I won't know until early January if I get in or not. But? Here's hoping.

I suppose I should get back to my homework. Just needed a break, I guess...

digging up..

I found this posted on an older blog of mine, and thought I might re-post it here for kicks and giggles... I kinda like this particular piece.

in the waning moments of the night
i can see with astounding clarity
your face becomes clearer
through the cloud of smoke
it curls upward in thin ribbons
as the tip glows in protest
the only sound is that of your breathing
loud exhalations in the stillness
your blue eyes are partially hidden in the shadows
yet they speak volumes even in the dark
i am afraid to ask you
i know the answer anyhow
which explains why i am here
but not why you are
and so the smell which has become all to familiar
continues to permeate our clothes
as we dance around the question
in a motionless waltzthe silence hangs above us
and looms menacingly like the answer
it daunts me, and frightens you
almost to the filter
the gulf continues to widen
and the hopes of bridging it
start to dissipate into the night
like so much smoke
the awkwardness is so latent
the tension mingles with the smoke
and starts to strangle me
but you don't seem to notice
as you flick the remains away
more is crushed beneath your heel
than what would seem
the clarity is tragic
you know
and you know i know
words now are pointless
there is no chance of bringing it back
you turn your back
and you're gone
so i walk away
and i can't look back as i go

giving thanks...

I love short school weeks. I have only three days of classes this week, because of the Thanksgiving holiday. The beauty of the Thursday holiday; the 4 day weekend. Gotta love it. And fortunately for me, most of my profs decided that this week would we be a bad time to have anything due, so other than some regualr homework, I'm pretty much skating free this week. Other than that? Not too much exciting going on here. It is, however, time for me to leave for class.

one of those days...

I'm cold, Ihave a massive headache, and I'm supposed to be goiong to class in just a bit. Did I mention it was snowing outside? Too bad I don't have a fireplace and a good book... That's what I'd like to be doing for the rest of the night.

So... After blowing through an entire season of Lost in less than a week, I'm left to wonder what is going on currently. I don't want to start watching this season, and lose what happend in the episodes I've already missed... I could buy those episodes of itunes, and watch them on the computer, but I'd like to think I'm not that desperate. Besides, at this time of the school year, with motivation running at an all time low, (as it tends to do about this time of year) I hardly need any more distractions than I already have in life. I month and I'll hasve this semester in the bag... There is a light at the end of the tunnel...

hmm...

And....... the main drain pipe in our house is plugged. Stellar.

But, at least it won't cost us anything to have fixed... the joys of renting... Now its just a matter of when it will get fixed... I am sure it is going to take longer than normal for someone to come around, being a holiday and all...

Yeah.

lazy days...

So... it's Vetran's Day. That means I don't have class today... So I've been charged with cleaning the house. Haven't gotten very far yet. I guess its better than going to class. I so needed this short week after being gone on that crazy trip. Man, it was a lot of fun, but I sure was worn out by the time I got home.

In other news, I think I am officially addicted to Lost. I'm pathetic, I know. But, I have to say that I am always curious as to whats going tohappen next. Nothing like a little Robinson Crusoe mixed with a good conspiracy theory... And its even worse when somebody lent me the whole 1st season on DVD...

Other than that? I really should get to cleaning the house... but I am so undermotivated about the whoile thing, ya know?

bang head here...

I need to be working on an essay that's dun in like 3 hours. I am trying, really, but I am having a heck of time coming up with an appropriate subject. Its for architecture, and is yet another lame assignment in a whole string of them for this class. Oh, well. Only like 4 weeks left of classes, and then finals... I will be glad when this smemester is over.

There are possible changes coming up for us at the end of this semester... I can't really eloborate on them at this point, but there is something that might just change a lot of things come december or january. No, there are no little ones on the way, for any of you that might be thinking that. We should know more in the next few weeks, and once we have some solid information, I can talk about it here.

Other than that? its cold here, and we have like 6 inches of fresh snow. Trying to get all caught up on my homework. That's about the most exciting info I have at the moment...

back to the grindstone...

I am so sleep deprived, its not even funny. Or maybe it is; I don't know. Nonetheless, i feel like I ccould sleep for a week. This weekend was awesome, and a ton of fun, but we definitely did not get enough sleep. and it looks its time for class... fun.
